Joe Nocera.  Acrylic and Mixed Media Paintings.

My initial training as an artist was at university in Connecticut.  After moving to Canada, I was mentored for several years by a dear friend and successful artist in Ontario.  Since 2017, I have been based in my own studio in New Brunswick.  I show my work regularly throughout the region (sales, exhibitions, auctions).  My work has received awards in international competitions.  I am now seeking gallery representation that will take me beyond New Brunswick.

My work tends toward being Symbolist, Abstract, and Expressionist (and any combination thereof).  I am influenced by luminaries in these genres such as Max Ernst, Wassily Kandinsky, and (in particular!) any member of CoBrA.  A key tenet of my work is: I seek to produce art that has emotional value.

There are two main themes to my work, and as such there are two tabs (Wild Things and Abstract) on this site.  Both are of an abstract lineage, but in my Wild Things line I try to 1) bring in a natural element, and 2) create a sense of movement and dynamism.  My Abstract line is geared towards composition that leads to comparisons of values - forcing a viewer to recognize the comparisons.

I have used many media, but much of my work is in acrylics.  Some of my pieces are mixed media, which is often a result of adding in some everyday material (images, metal, etc.).  I also use linocut printing and resins.

I use art to say the things for which I have no words.
